Ronald G. Macala

Ron Macala has practiced law since 1974. He is a graduate of Hiram College and the University of Akron School of Law. Attorney Macala is the Managing Shareholder of the Law Firm. He has vast experience in representing labor organizations and employees in the following areas: Public and Private Sector Labor Law; Pension and Retirement Benefits; Job and Benefit Losses.Ron also has extensive experience representing employee benefit plans. He has lectured and made legal presentations at several programs sponsored by local, state and national professional organizations. Attorney Macala has been admitted to practice law in the following courts: the Supreme Court of the United States; the Supreme Court of Ohio and all other Ohio Courts; the U.S. District Court, Northern and Southern Districts of Ohio; U.S. 4 th Circuit Court of Appeals;U.S. 6 th Circuit Court of Appeals. He is a member of the following Professional Organizations: American, Ohio and Stark County Bar Associations – Labor and Employment Law Sections; American Association of Justice - Employment Law; AFL-CIO Lawyers Coordinating Committee; Ohio Public Employees Lawyers Association; International Foundation of Employee Benefit Plans. In addition, Mr. Macala is an active member of several non-profit Boards and Agencies in Stark County.

Timothy R. Piatt

Timothy R. Piatt has been practicing law since 1988. He is a graduate of Kent State University and the University of Akron School of Law. He has been admitted to practice law in the Supreme Court of Ohio, the U.S. District Court, Northern District of Ohio, the U.S. District Court, Southern District of Ohio, and the U.S. 6 th Circuit Court of Appeals (Ohio, Michigan,Kentucky and Tennessee). He is a member of the American Bar Association – Labor and Employment Law Section, the Ohio State Bar Association, the Stark County Bar Association and the AFL-CIO Lawyers Coordinating Committee. Attorney Piatt’s areas of expertise include Pension and Health and Welfare Benefits Law, General Employment Law, and Discrimination Law. Tim is also a U.S. Navy Veteran.

Timothy P. Piatt has been practicing law since 2006. He is a graduate of Kent State University (B.S. He has been admitted to practice law in the Supreme Court of Ohio, the U.S. District Court, Northern District of Ohio, the U.S. District Court, Southern District of Ohio, and the U.S. 6th Circuit Court of Appeals (Ohio, Michigan, Kentucky and Tennessee). He is a member of the American Bar Association – Labor and Employment Law Section, the Ohio State Bar Association, the Stark County Bar Association and the AFL-CIO Lawyers Coordinating Committee. Attorney Piatt’s areas of expertise include Pension and Health and Welfare Benefits Law, General Employment Law, and Discrimination Law. Tim also serves on the Board of Directors for the Autism Society of Greater Akron. Prior to becoming an attorney, Tim was a High School Teacher and a bus driver.

Thomas J. Griffith

Tom Griffith has been practicing law since 1990. He is a graduate of Vanderbilt University (B.A.), University of Kentucky (M.A.), and Case Western Reserve University School of Law (J.D.). He has been admitted to practice law in the Supreme Court of Ohio, the U.S. 6th Circuit Court of Appeals (Ohio, Michigan, Kentucky and Tennessee), the U.S. District Court, Northern Northern District of Ohio, and the U.S. Bankruptcy Court, Southern District of Ohio. He is a member of the American Bar Association, the Ohio Bar Association, the Akron Bar Association, the Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Association, and the AFL-CIO Lawyers Coordinating Committee. Attorney Griffith’s areas of expertise include Employee Benefits/ERISA Law, Employment Law, Unemployment Compensation Law, and Private Sector Labor Law. Prior to joining Macala & Piatt in 2011, Attorney Griffith was in-house counsel and a senior officer of a family-owned legal publishing business, as well as an adjunct professor at a local community college. He also serves as the legal consultant for the American Philosophical Practitioners Association. In his spare time, he plays electric bass in a local rock/blues band.

Jeffrey R. Bruno

Jeff Bruno joined Macala & Piatt, LLC as an associate in 2016. He is a graduate of Youngstown State University and The University of Minnesota Law School. He has been admitted to practice law in the Supreme Court of Ohio and the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Ohio. He is a member of the American Bar Association – Labor & Employment Law Section, the Ohio State Bar Association, theStark County Bar Association, and the AFL-CIO Lawyers Coordinating Committee. Attorney Bruno’s areas of expertise include Public and Private Sector Labor Law, and General Employment Law. During law school, Jeff was a Peggy Browning Fellow at the United Steelworkers International Union in Pittsburgh,PA, and worked as a law clerk at the National Labor Relations Board – Region 18, and the United States Department of Justice- Immigration Court in Minneapolis, MN.
